Harold Bengsch, a Greene County commissioner who was the longtime head of the Springfield-Greene County Health Department, was selected to receive the Lifetime Achievement in Business award during Springfield Business Journal’s 2020 Economic Impact Awards in July.

The award recognizes a career of excellence in business and impact on the community.

Bengsch has been a fixture of local public service for more than 60 years in the Springfield community. He served for two decades as director of the local Health Department and is nearing the end of his final term on the Greene County Commission. He plans to retire at the end of the year at 85 years old.

Bengsch’s leadership at the Health Department helped establish the Jordan Valley Community Health Center, the Child Advocacy Center; and the joining of the county and city health departments.

SBJ’s 20th annual Economic Impact Awards will present additional individual and corporate honors: BKD LLP as Philanthropic Business of the Year; Leadership Springfield as Business Advocate of the Year; Pam Yancey, an Arvest Bank president in Branson, as Community Involvement Champion; Trent Freeman, founder of Pure & Clean LLC, as Entrepreneur of the Year; and The Kitchen Inc. as Charitable Nonprofit of the Year.

Economic impact honors also will be announced in five categories based on years in business. Finalists, in alphabetical order, are:

Loehr Health Center, Neighbors Mill Bakery & Cafe and Pitt Technology Group LLC, in the 1-7 years in business category;

Mostly Serious LLC, OMG Commerce and Phoenix Home Care and Hospice, for 8-15 years in business;

Environmental Works Inc., Oasis Hotel & Convention Center and Toth and Associates Inc., for 16-29 years in business;

Citizens Memorial Hospital, JMark Business Solutions Inc. and Penmac Staffing Services Inc., for 30-74 years in business; and

CoxHealth, Ollis/Akers/Arney and Paul Mueller Co., for over 75 years in business.
