Josh Manning, owner of Valiant Group, sees potential where others may not. His firm provides property management, home rentals and real estate development services, specializing in renovating raw land and blighted properties. In four years, he has built a $50 million real estate portfolio, managed 700 doors and rehabilitated more than 200 properties. He also invests in the development of people, offering support to his 40 employees through mentoring, cross-training and financial support for education. Manning, 38, leads community workshops and was involved with Springfield’s Community Development Code Update Initiative.

Proudest moment? Marrying my wife. She’s smart, funny, full of common sense and still chose me.
What would shock people about your job? The amount of problem-solving required daily. Construction is 50% planning, 50% putting out fires.
Your professional aha moment? Building strong relationships is just as important as building structures.
Best piece of advice you’ve received? You don’t make money when you sell; you make money when you buy.
What historical figure do you identify with? Theodore Roosevelt – bold, relentless and always pushing forward.
Favorite hobby or creative outlet? Boating. My wife and I wake surf every weekend during the summer.
Favorite local food order? Ramen at Karai.
Dame Chiropractic LLC emerged as the new name of Harshman Chiropractic Clinic LLC with the purchase of the business; Leo Kim added a second venture, Keikeu LLC, to 14 Mill Market; and Mercy Springfield Communities opened its second primary care clinic in Ozark.
