2024 Trusted Advisers: Brynna Lindner

MRD Lawyers

Posted online

In a little more than a decade of work as an attorney, Brynna Lindner has accumulated experience on both prosecutorial and defense sides of the criminal justice system.

Lindner began employment in early 2022 as an associate attorney at MRD Lawyers, where she advocates on behalf of clients in a variety of steps of the legal process, including plea negotiations, preliminary hearings and trials. Her position at the Springfield criminal defense law firm follows nearly 11 years as a prosecutor with the Stone County Prosecuting Attorney’s office.

Lindner says when her clients face the criminal justice system, trust is vital as they navigate one of the most anxious times of their lives. Since beginning at MRD Lawyers, her client total in 2023 increased 25% to 125 with annual billing growing nearly 20% to $325,000.

“Often, when there is a criminal matter pending, it is all consuming in terms of disrupting my clients’ lives and the lives of their family members and loved ones,” she says.

She acknowledges that regardless of the charges they face, few clients want to encounter a criminal defense attorney, as people tend to not trust the court system. Still, empathy and clear communication are skills Lindner says she brings to those she serves.

“I am not here just to shuffle clients through the system, which regretfully sometimes happens in this line of work,” she says. “My goal is to help clients see that they will make it through – and that they will be better for making it through.”

Jessica Martin, owner of Martin Law LLC, says she’s known Lindner since the two were first-year students at the University of Missouri School of Law. She says Lindner, who received a Juris Doctor from the school in 2011, often dealt with pro se defendants while working as an assistant prosecutor in Stone County.

“Rather than bullying or manipulating them, she treated them with respect and courtesy,” Martin says. “She also showed her heart for people through her participation in the drug court program.”

Aside from being a member of industry groups such as the Springfield Metropolitan Bar Association, Lindner says she attends educational and charitable events led by the Southern Missouri Women Lawyers Association.

“Women criminal defense attorneys are outnumbered by male criminal defense attorneys, and it is great to have our own space for mentorship,” Lindner says.

Outside the legal realm, she is a member of the Society of Ozarkian Hillcrofters, whose local work includes promoting land conservation and protecting native wildlife.
