2020 Men of the Year: Chris Tuckness

CT Consulting & Communications

Posted online

Chris Tuckness has put his communications skills to work throughout his career, whether that’s been for nonprofits or organizations such as Mercy and the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce.

Tuckness is currently working to build his CT Consulting & Communications business he founded more than a decade ago. He’s also in the job market, after he says he was subject to COVID-19 layoffs by his previous employer, Mercy North Central Region. For the health care system, he served in a marketing planning role for more than two years until May, according to his LinkedIn profile.

“My approach to this next journey is to keep an open mind and find a career which is challenging, fun and allows me to make a difference in an organization,” he says. “Regardless, I will frame it within the perimeters of faith, family and health. I feel these three characteristics must be there in order to have a fulfilled life.”

CT Consulting helps nonprofits and businesses develop communication plans, board retreats and revenue-driving special events.

His resume cites work with Starport Transportation, for which he says an internal communication plan he wrote led the company to increase its revenue by 110% in 14 months. CT Consulting also has performed management and performance structure audits for nursing homes in Missouri, Arkansas and Tennessee, and Tuckness has facilitated board retreats for more than 35 chambers of commerce and nonprofits across the nation.

While at Mercy, Tuckness served as a liaison between ministry standards and local leadership needs.

“At first this doesn’t sound too challenging. But if you take into account the true variances of local markets versus corporate, it is truly a daunting task,” he says. “I truly enjoyed my time at Mercy and have been blessed to create so many new friendships.”

Among his accomplishments at Mercy, Tuckness says he worked with local leaders to maximize the potential of a new midwife program, helping to boost patient volume by 102%.

Tuckness’ previous experience includes time as director of marketing and communications for information technology firm JMark Business Solutions Inc., vice president of community development for the Springfield chamber, director of volunteer services at CoxHealth and community action program leader for the West Central Missouri Community Action Agency.

At the chamber, Tuckness underwent an effort to cut major projects and focus on more profitable programs. He says his work led to a revenue increase in excess of $75,000. At CoxHealth, he focused on improving recruitment, retention and brand perception.

Beyond his work for nonprofits via CT Consulting, Tuckness is active civically through various efforts.

He’s been a longtime volunteer of the Humane Society of Southwest Missouri, for which he helped restructure board recruitment, increase public perception and awareness of overpopulation, led five major fund development campaigns, and established an endowment to cover the costs of spaying and neutering animals with an on-site veterinarian.
