Whirlpool to sell compressor business for $1.08B

Home appliance maker Whirlpool penned a deal to sell its Embraco compressor business for $1.08 billion in cash.

The sale to Japan's Nidec Corp. would allow Whirlpool to focus more on its consumer-facing business.

The Benton Harbor, Michigan-based company also announced plans to buy back $1 billion worth of its shares starting April 26.
