Walmart officially changes its name

Wal-Mart has officially dropped the hyphen to become Walmart.

Known as Wal-Mart Stores Inc. since 1970, the corporate name change reflects a similar switch to its marketing in 2008.

"The name change chiefly demonstrates the company's growing emphasis on serving customers seamlessly, however they want to shop," Walmart officials said in a December news release announcing the change.
