Republic customers can now experience grocery shopping without leaving their cars.
For the third time in the Springfield area, Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (NYSE: WMT) expanded its online grocery pickup service yesterday to the Wal-Mart Supercenter at 1150 U.S. Hwy. 60 E. in Republic.
Customers can choose from 30,000 items online – including fresh produce, meats and organic foods – and have their groceries delivered to their car for free, according to a news release.
“We have always been known for saving our customers money and, with services like grocery pickup, we are also saving them valuable time,” said Joe Huber, the retailer’s ecommerce market coach, in the release. “Our customers have told us that grocery pickup is a game changer. They are now able to complete their grocery shopping in a matter of minutes – between errands or on their way home from an after-school activity – without even unbuckling their seat belts.”
Walmart has setup WalMart.com/grocery and enabled the service through the Walmart Grocery mobile app. Customers create their shopping list, and during checkout, select a time to pick up the order. Customers are advised to park in a reserved parking space for “Online Grocery Pickup” when they arrive at the store, and call a designated number to alert an associate, who then brings the groceries to the customer’s car.
The service also is offered at the Supercenter at 3315 S. Campbell Ave. and the Neighborhood Market at 444 W. Grand St.
In Springfield, the Hy-Vee chain runs its Aisles Online grocery delivery service, and locally based Price Cutter makes deliveries from select stores, including its new organic-focused Ruby’s Market. Hy-Vee officials have told Springfield Business Journal, the Springfield store is one of the busiest in the chain for online orders.
In response to the frenzy of back-to-school shopping, Wal-Mart officials said they’ll also add hundreds of back-to-school staples for online grocery pickup.
