US jobless claims fall to 45-year low

For the week ended Jan. 13, initial claims for state unemployment benefits dropped by 41,000 to a seasonally adjusted 220,000.

The decline marked the lowest number of jobless claims in 45 years, according to Reuters. They haven’t been that low since February 1973.

However, according to the report, the decline may have been exaggerated since the federal Labor Department estimated claims in California, Arkansas, Kentucky, Maine, Hawaii, Virginia and Wyoming.
