A pair of local senior living communities are scheduled to open in 2018, adding to some $65 million in projects
that wrapped up or started in the last two years.
The projects are Copper Rock in Rogersville and Canyon Springs in Springfield.
Willow Springs-based Willow Health Care Inc. is behind the 68-acre Copper Rock senior health care community at 712 Copper Rock Drive in Rogersville. Willow Health Care Vice President of Operations Shirley Alter said the three-phase project targeted for completion in less than eight years has a price tag of $23 million.
Phase I plans call for a 90-bed skilled nursing center, a 12-bed memory care unit, 30 short-term rehabilitation units and a therapy room with a pool. Phase II would create The Lodge at Copper Rock, comprising a 60-bed assisted living facility and 38 senior living apartments, followed by Phase III plans for The Villas at Copper Rock, comprising duplexes and triplexes for retirement living. Alter said Springfield architect Larry Nelson is the designer behind the plans, and Phase I should be completed by late 2018.
“We were asked to pursue the Rogersville community,” Alter said. “The community has been very positive and very promising.”
Willow Health Care 18 months ago bought the local Ozark Riverview Manor and also operates
Willow Care Nursing Home in Willows Springs; Mountain View Healthcare; Brooke Haven Healthcare in West Plains; and Park Place Apartments in Mountain View.
Springfield Holdings LLC is developing the Canyon Springs retirement community at 3810 S. Weller Ave. Baron Design & Associates LLC designed the community that will have a wellness and resort lifestyle with an indoor health and fitness center, walking trails, theater, game room, putting green and exam room for concierge physician services. Springfield Holdings is organized by Lloyd Scale, of Springfield, and Steve Trotter, of Ozark, according to a Missouri secretary of state filing. Scale is an internal medicine hospitalist for Mercy
, and Trotter is a real estate agent for Murney, Associates Realtors
, according to the company’s websites.
Reached this morning, Trotter declined to disclose the estimated cost of construction for the 6.5-acre project. He noted the planned development is in its early stages.
As baby boomers retire, the state found southwest Missouri has a shortage of skilled nursing and assisted living facilities. A 2014 study by the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services found by the year 2020, the Springfield metropolitan statistical area needed an another 908 skilled nursing beds and 329 assisted living beds to keep up with the growing demand.
Other senior living communities in the works include Birch Pointe Health and Rehabilitation in Springfield; The Villages at Wicklow in Nixa; and Focused Senior Communities in Ozark.
