Trump plans stop in Springfield

President Donald Trump is expected to visit Springfield on Wednesday.

President Donald Trump plans to make a stop in the Queen City next week, according to multiple media reports and Springfield Police Department spokeswoman Lisa Cox.

The visit to Springfield was first reported by Bloomberg. This morning, Cox said the department had been “contacted about President Trump visiting Springfield sometime on Wednesday, Aug. 30.”

“We will update the media and the public when we are able to do so,” Cox said via email, noting a location for the visit has not been nailed down.

A White House press assistant, who declined to give her name, this morning told Springfield Business Journal the visit has not yet been confirmed.

Asked when the trip would be made official, she said, “Next week, if it’s true.”

The Bloomberg article posted last night reported Trump would launch a campaign to overhaul U.S. tax policy with a stop in Springfield followed by several others in the coming weeks. A White House official who spoke anonymously with Bloomberg said Trump would not lay out his own tax overhaul plan, but instead gather support for middle-class tax cuts, tax code simplifications and job growth via competitive business strategies.

Bloomberg did not identify a location for the president’s visit.

Trump last year won Missouri with roughly 57 percent of the ballots cast. On the campaign trail, Vice President Mike Pence had visited the Springfield Expo Center to rally support for Trump.
