Top Democrats call for Missouri senator to resign

Posted online

Top Democrats are calling for the resignation of Missouri state Sen. Maria Chappelle-Nadal, D-University City.

“I hope Trump is assassinated!” she wrote in a Facebook exchange yesterday morning, referring to President Donald Trump.

She quickly deleted her post, but it wasn't fast enough to escape scrutiny.

U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-Mo.: “I condemn it. It’s outrageous. And she should resign.”

The calls for her resignation reached across the aisle.

Republican Gov. Eric Greitens said in a statement: “We can have differences in our country, but no one should encourage political violence. The senator should resign.”

The post also resulted in a U.S. Secret Service investigation.
