Subway expects to close 500 stores in North America

Sandwich chain Subway expects to close 500 North American stores as it rolls out as many as 1,000 new locations overseas.

All of the company's stores are operated by franchisees. It has nearly 44,000 stores globally.

The closures may come about as Subway implements new services at stores, including self-service kiosks, more comfortable seating, and Wi-Fi and USB charging ports.
