SPS hires new director

Posted online

Springfield Public Schools chose a principal from nearby Pleasant Hope for a vacant director job.

Michael Methvin is scheduled to start July 1 as SPS’ director of elementary learning. He succeeds Bret Range, who was promoted to executive director of student and school services, according to a news release.

Methvin comes to SPS from Pleasant Hope R-6 Schools, where he’s currently an elementary school principal. He previously worked as an assistant middle school principal for Bolivar R-1 Schools, and as a business teacher and athletic director for Halfway R-3 Schools.

“His building experience, his capacity to support and develop educators, and his understanding of how a solid learning foundation is essential for future success were key strengths that will benefit our system,” said Jason Anderson, executive director of elementary learning for SPS, in the release.

At SPS, Methvin will oversee the district’s elementary leaders, teachers and staff.
