Springfield engineering firm Malone Finkle Eckhardt & Collins Inc. merged into Chicago-area company RTM Engineering Consultants.

Through the deal, the Springfield company transitioned to the name MFEC, a division of RTM. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed in a news release, and officials could not be reached immediately for comment by deadline.

“I'm confident that we found the right partner at the right time,” said Mike Thome, MFEC vice president and business development head, in the release. “RTM’s reputation and expertise are unmatched, and the company culture is well aligned with our own.”

Based in the Chicago suburb of Schaumburg, Illinois, RTM specializes in mechanical, electrical and plumbing, as well as fire protection and civil engineering. The company’s website lists nine offices, including the 3333 E. Battlefield Road home of MFEC. Founded in 1981, MFEC also operates an office in Overland Park, Kansas.

MFEC ranked seventh on Springfield Business Journal’s 2017 list of the area’s largest engineering firms with six local registered engineers. The company reported $3.1 million in 2016 revenue with 17 total employees.

The project portfolio of MFEC, an MEP engineer, includes the Christian County Circuit Court currently under construction, as well as work for Missouri State University and O’Reilly Automotive Inc. (Nasdaq: ORLY). The company is licensed in 48 states.

“MFEC has earned a stellar reputation for designing innovative and energy-efficient systems for a wide range of projects and industries,” RTM CEO Tony Mirchandani said in the release. “This partnership expands our firms’ capabilities and strengthens our ability to serve diverse market sectors nationwide.”
