Springfield chamber picks up national honor

Posted online
Officials with the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce yesterday received the Chamber of the Year Award at the American Chamber of Commerce Executives’ annual national convention, held in Louisville, Ky.

Two other chambers – the Chamber of Commerce of St. Joseph County in Indiana and the Hilton-Head-Bluffton Chamber of Commerce in South Carolina – were finalists in the same category as the Springfield chamber, according to a news release.

Chamber of the Year honors are designed to recognize the role chambers play in aiding businesses and the community. Award judges noted they were impressed by the Springfield chamber’s strategic plan, volunteer involvement and leadership and advocacy initiatives, the release said.

In June, when the finalists were announced, Springfield chamber President Jim Anderson told Springfield Business Journal this was the first time the local chamber had been a finalist for the award, and he pointed to the efforts of volunteer leadership and the chamber staff as instrumental in the recognition.

ACCE represents more than 7,000 chamber professionals and 1,200 chambers of commerce in the U.S. and Canada.
