Shealy Wellness founder passes leadership torch

Posted online

Local pain management clinic Shealy Wellness LLC shifted its leadership this month.

Dr. Norm Shealy named Dr. Sergey Sorin as CEO and medical director of Shealy Wellness, which also does business as the International Institute of Holistic Medicine in Springfield and nearby Fair Grove, according to a news release.

Sorin joined the company in 2016, serving in vice president, president and medical director roles, according to his LinkedIn profile. According to the release, he’s board-certified in family practice with emergency room experience.

Shealy Wellness specializes in holistic approaches to chronic pain, anxiety, depression and other ailments. Services include electrotherapy, acupuncture, biogenics and music therapy, among others, according to the company’s website.

Shealy, who founded what was then known as the Shealy Institute in 1971, stayed on as president at the firm. Patients will have access to both physicians.

“The most common symptom in the world is pain, and yet nobody specializes in it,” says Shealy, who could not be reached for comment by deadline, on his website.

The release does not say whether Shealy plans to retire, but notes he has been searching for 40 years to find the best candidate to continue his work.

Shealy’s biography page indicates his clinic has served more than 30,000 patients since its inception. In 2015, MSU awarded Shealy with its annual Bronze Bear Award for donating his 250-acre farm in Fair Grove to the university.
