Springfield’s Vib hotel will serve as a prototype for future endeavors by Best Western International Inc.
The local hotel, 1845 E. Sunshine St., is scheduled to open Saturday following a grand opening tomorrow, according to an invitation from Gordon Elliott, president of Elliott Lodging Ltd., the developer of the millennial-focused hotel.
The only other Vib hotel opened in early 2017 in Antalya, Turkey, marking “the first of many in Turkey and around the world,” Best Western Senior Vice President Suzi Yoder said in a news release at the time.
In Springfield, the 40,000-square-foot Vib – pronounced “vibe” – sits on 1.2 acres that previously housed Elliott’s San Francisco Oven restaurant just east of Sunshine’s intersection with Glenstone Avenue. Officials broke ground on the hotel in September 2016.
The hotel was initially expected to open last fall, but the launch was pushed back to this spring and then this summer, before landing on the Aug. 11 opening date, according to past Springfield Business Journal reporting.
Building permits on file with the city — which estimate the project cost at $4.8 million — show final touches were being completed through last month.
