YOUR BUSINESS AUTHORITY
Springfield, MO
During the Alliance of Area Business Publishers’ summer conference, Springfield Business Journal took home two best-of-show awards, including a top honor for SBJ.net.
The AABP presented 115 Editorial Excellence awards on June 23 in Washington, D.C. The organization received 484 entries from 37 publications in the United States, Canada and Australia, according to a news release.
SBJ won the top award for the best business publication website in the nation, as well as a bronze honor for best newspaper in the small tabloids category.
For the gold best website award, judges said SBJ.net “lives up to the publication’s motto of being ‘your business authority.’”
“The homepage contains dozens of stories of local, regional and national interest, balanced with photography that demonstrates the rich culture and history in Missouri’s Ozarks,” judges wrote. “A conversational writing style makes the site approachable to readers, and a more traditional news website design offers them a predictable – yet aesthetically pleasing – user experience.”
Judges further discussed SBJ.net’s Talk to SBJ button, which makes it “clear that they want to talk with their audience, not to it.”
“This attitude is more important now more than ever as local news outlets work to build trust with their communities. Springfield Business Journal is paving the way,” judges wrote.
The Rhode Island-based Providence Business News’ PBN.com won second place, with The Business Journal, of Fresno, California, earning bronze for its website.
SBJ also won a best-of-show third place honor in the best newspaper category among small tabloids, based on revenues.
Judges pointed to SBJ’s efforts to package news to “the benefit of readers,” as well as its Focus section that “feels like a magazine within a magazine.”
“There are multiple points of entry for readers throughout the publication, with lots of attention to lists and breakout content that offers information at a glance for busy readers,” judges wrote. “The intentional use of white space makes the publication easy to navigate, as well.”
In the best newspaper category among small tabloids, California’s San Fernando Business Journal won the gold award.
The Republic School District is on track to open its Intermediate School for fifth- and sixth-grade students for the 2025-26 academic year.
