Springfield Business Journal last night recognized 12 companies and nine individuals at its annual Choice Employers award ceremony.
About 170 people attended the event held at 425 Downtown, 425 W. Walnut St. Brent McCoy, membership director for the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce, served as the event's master of ceremonies.
Based on survey results verified by Ollis & Co., SBJ’s Choice Employers awards honor companies based on their responses to questions about workplace benefits in the areas of incentives, family-friendliness, people development, corporate culture and civic mindedness.
In the 5-to-24 employees category, GeoEngineers Inc. took home top honors, followed by GHN Architects/Engineers in second place and Springfield Paper Co. in third place.
UMB Bank won first place 25-to-100 employees category, with KPM CPAs PC coming in at No. 2 and Olsson Associates Inc. placing No. 3.
In the 101-to-300 employees category, McKesson Corp. took the lead, followed by Commerce Bank at No. 2 and Guaranty Bank at No. 3.
Mercy Hospital Springfield won first place in the 301-plus employees category. CoxHealth ranked No. 2 and Drury University received third place honors.
Individual award honorees, which were not ranked, were:
- Community Involvement Champion – Marci Bowling of BKD LLP, Rosemary Lewis of CoxHealth and Dawn Mixon of Jack Henry & Associates Inc.;
- Employee of the Year – Angie Burlison of Tuthill Corp., Sherry Coker of Ozarks Technical Community College and Tammy Kelley of Old Missouri Bank; and
- Human Resources Professional – Melissa Carr of Guaranty Bank, Julie Cummings of BKD LLP and John Hursh of CoxHealth.
