Rock'n Ribs raises $140K for charities

Posted online
The 15th annual Rock'n Ribs BBQ Festival held in May raised $140,000 for seven Ozarks children's charities.

Starting today, Rock'n Ribs Executive Committee members will begin presenting checks to Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Ozarks, Great Circle, Boy Scouts of America, Good Samaritan Boys Ranch, Harmony House, Ronald McDonald Tooth Truck and the Ozarks Regional YMCA, according to a news release. Each will receive a $20,000 donation.

Presented by the city's five Rotary Clubs and the Rotaract Club of Springfield, the May 9-10 event gathered over 1,000 Rotarians and volunteers, as well as 72 cooking teams and the public.

"Our community has a strong sense of kindness to help make Rock'n Ribs a successful charity fundraiser," event Chairman Brett Sheets said in the release. "We know that funds raised are a much needed source of revenue for seven local children’s charities."

The 2014 funds bring the festival's 15-year fundraising total to $1.4 million, according to the release.[[In-content Ad]]
