A Fox Business report cites court documents in showing drug companies increased the distribution of opioids over a seven-year period.
Between 2006 and 2012, 76 billion opioid pills were given to pharmacies. Commercial pharmacies received 8.4 billion pills in 2006. That number rose to 12.6 billion in 2012.
The data is cited in a federal case overseeing 1,500 lawsuits filed by local governments against distributors of opioids.
