Report: Clues in Marriott hack implicate China

The hackers behind the massive Marriott International data breach left clues indicating they were working for a China intelligence gathering operation, people familiar with the matter told Reuters.

According to the sources, the hackers may have been deployed to gather information for Beijing’s espionage efforts as opposed to financial gain, the sources said.

Marriott disclosed last week the records of up to 500 million Starwood customers were exposed.
