Gov. Mike Parson signed three executive orders to reorganize several state agencies.
The Department of Economic Development will be the most affected, as its staff will drop to 165 from 865. The affected employees in three DED divisions will transfer to other agencies.
“Most of the states that we’re competing with every day have less than 200 employees in their economic development branches,” said Parson. “They are strictly focused on economic development, and that’s what we’ve got to do.”
For example, the Office of Public Counsel and the Public Service Commission will transfer from the DED to the Department of Insurance, Financial Institutions and Professional Registration.
DED units over workforce development and economic research will transfer to the Department of Higher Education.
