Springfield, MO
Gov. Mike Parson on Monday named Sen. Mike Kehoe, R-Jefferson City, as his replacement for lieutenant governor.
According to The Kansas City Star, the question of whether the governor has the constitutional authority to appoint a lieutenant governor is lingering. Unlike many states, the governor and lieutenant governor do not run as a ticket. In the past, lieutenant governor appointments have not been challenged in court.
Parson, who earlier this month succeeded embattled Gov. Eric Greitens, said he chose Kehoe because he has "leadership, humility, meaningful experience, a willingness to listen to your adversaries and the heart of a public servant."
