The Ozarks Technical Community College Foundation brought in $3 million more than expected for its latest fundraising campaign.

The multiyear fundraiser dubbed “Passion. Purpose. Promise. — The Campaign for OTC” net $18.3 million, ahead of its $15 million goal, according to a news release.

“OTC has always understood the importance of responding to not only student needs but also the needs of local employers,” said Jim Towery, past chairman of the OTC Foundation board and president of Steelman Transportation, in the release. “The workforce initiatives fulfilled by this campaign are excellent examples of how OTC is helping educate and train students for high-demand careers like diesel technology and nursing.”

The money will fund projects including:
    •    renovation of the Hamra Library;
    •    expansion of the diesel technology training facility, resulting in triple the training space and enrollment capacity growth of 45 percent;
    •    a new Jared Family Welcome Center for prospective students;
    •    an outdoor classroom at the Lewis Family Early Childhood Education Center;
    •    student scholarships; and
    •    construction of a 4,000-square-foot nursing lab and establishment of a registered nursing program supported by CoxHealth at the OTC Table Rock campus.

Current projects on the Springfield campus include OTC’s new Workforce Development Center. Designed by nForm Architecture LLC, the 25,000-square-foot building will house a new welding and fabrication lab, classroom and support areas, as well as storage facilities for the college. General contractor Rich Kramer Construction Inc. is working to complete the project this winter.
