Red’s BMX LLC
With a background in retail, Cyle Meade ventured into business ownership with the opening of Red’s BMX LLC, 3201 S. Campbell Ave. A grand opening event is planned for June 23, but the 1,600-square-foot bike shop officially started June 1 in a strip mall owned by Camerie Property Inc. The BMX-oriented shop sells bicycles from 12-inch balance models all the way up to 26-inch pedal options, with prices averaging in the $300-$500 range. Tools, parts, accessories and apparel, including BMX footwear, hats and backpacks, also are sold. Repairs are offered on all brands of bicycles, Meade said. The shop occupies space that formerly housed Springfield Bicycle Co., where Meade once worked, and is on a three-year lease with Camerie Property Inc. for an undisclosed rate. Meade also declined to provide startup costs for the shop, whose name serves as a multilevel tribute to his family. Meade is a redhead, and said his mom, Sharon Evans, was nicknamed “Red” growing up.

Hudson Hawk Barber & Shop
Hudson Hawk Barber & Shop’s eighth store opened April 9 at 2150 W. Republic Road in Magers Crossing. The 1,300-square-foot shop in southwest Springfield is one of the largest of the company’s locations, said Thad Forrester, who co-owns Hudson Hawk with Paul Catlett. Forrester declined to disclose startup costs for the new shop, which shares space in the shopping center with restaurants Great American Taco Co. and The Roost Bar & Grill, among others. Terms of the lease, which is through Randy Magers with Magers Crossing LLC, were undisclosed. The shop has 10 employees and offers $22 haircuts, $25 shaves, along with men’s styling and grooming products ranging between $18-$25. Among those is a locally owned grooming oil, sold under the Hudson Hawk name, Forrester said. Opening in Magers Crossing, the company’s fifth shop in Springfield, was a chance to serve people in southwest Springfield and Republic who weren’t previously being reached, he added.

Mirowski Inspections LLC
In business for 21 years, Mirowski Inspections LLC moved its operations to 1500 St. Louis St. on April 3. The business, co-owned by Steve Mirowski and his wife Dana, purchased the 1,556-square-foot property last year for an undisclosed price, said Patty Maples, public relations and marketing manager. Staff tackled renovations over the past several months at the vacant property. Maples declined to disclose renovation costs. The company previously leased office space at 331 E. Water St., Ste. 107. “We’re excited to have our own building,” Maples said. “Everybody takes some ownership of that because everybody had a hand in the renovation.” Ten employees work for the company, and Maples said the business plans to add two additional staffers by year’s end. The company performs termite and septic inspections, mold, asbestos and lead paint sampling, thermal imaging, and radon and air quality testing.
