Los Cabos Mexican Grill & Cantina
A new restaurant chain arrived Aug. 6 with the opening of Los Cabos Mexican Grill & Cantina at 4109 S. National Ave. The eatery marks the fifth location for Oklahoma-based owner 6 B’s Restaurant Management Group. Founder Jim Blacketer said three are in Oklahoma, with an additional Missouri site in Independence. The 8,000-square-foot building underwent remodeling this summer from Nesbitt Construction Inc. with interior design by Andrea Deckard Interiors LLC. Startup costs and the lease rate were not disclosed by Blacketer, who said the restaurant is in a 10-year contract with two five-year options with Dr. Harcharan Bains. Los Cabos replaced Cantina Laredo, which shuttered its lone Springfield restaurant in June. Blacketer said the 80-employee restaurant is a casual, upscale venue with occasional musical entertainment. Most entree prices range $10-$16.

Equity Restoration LLC
With nearly 20 years in the construction industry, contractor Jonny Jeppsen is taking on an additional venture dubbed Equity Restoration LLC. On June 7, the business began offering repair work and upgrades on homes for sale before the owners put them on the market. In his model, Jeppsen said customers are not charged until the closing of their real estate transaction is complete. “Essentially, it’s renovations paid at closing,” he said. Equity Restoration operates from 2,000 square feet at 435 S. Union Ave., Ste. K, which is shared with Jeppsen’s other company, Inspired Renovation LLC. The lease with Union Plaza One LLC is on a one-year renewable term for $900 per month, he said. With two employees, Jeppsen outsources much of the work to contractors who have completed criminal background checks. Equity Restoration offer service within a 100-mile radius of Springfield and has completed around eight jobs thus far. Startup costs were around $25,000, he added.
