Lolli and Pops
Specialty candy shop Lolli and Pops opened Sept. 30 in Battlefield Mall, 2825 S. Glenstone Ave., Ste. T06. Chief Purveyor Monica Anderson moved to Springfield to open and run the store for the San Francisco-based company. Lolli and Pops sells candies from around the globe, such as Cadbury, Kinder and Japanese Pocky sticks, as well as its private label brand. Other novelty items are bacon soda, green tea Kit Kat bars and craft beer-infused chocolates. Anderson said most popular are the gourmet gummy bears, sold by the pound and in refillable jars – starting at $12.50 apiece or “forever jars” good for 52 refills at $100-$1,000 based on size of the jar. The store employs 13, she said, mostly part-timers. Lolli and Pops has 37 locations, and Anderson said the Springfield store was the first in Missouri. The company has since opened in St. Louis.

Parlor 88
Father and son Kris and Ben Clements on Oct. 10 bought the Parlor 88 lounge at 1111 E. Republic Road for undisclosed terms. The 9-year-old establishment was the brainchild of Paul Sundy and Jay Hickman, with a reputation built around happy hours and social events. At one point, three Parlor 88 lounges were operating in Springfield, held by various ownership groups with Sundy at the center. Locations on East Sunshine and downtown closed in early 2014, and Sundy had said he was releasing interest in Parlor 88 to work on expanding the Big Whiskey’s concept. Natives of Canada, Kris and Ben moved to the United States in 1997. Ben runs the daily operations, having worked in the restaurants the past six years, and Kris is an executive for ingredients manufacturer DairiConcepts LP who is seeking retirement, according to a news release. With a deep appetizer menu, the Parlor 88 kitchen also prepares chicken wings, pizza, burgers and sandwiches. The Olive Room can be reserved for business luncheons and private parties.
Hours: 3 p.m.-1 a.m. Monday through Saturday and 6 p.m.-midnight Sunday.
