Hudson Hawk Barber & Shop
Veteran stylist Paul Catlett and newcomer barber Thad Forrester opened Hudson Hawk Barber & Shop on April 15 at 438 W. McDaniel St., Ste. A, adjacent to Catlett’s Studio 417 Salon. “We’re bringing back the American barbershop,” said Catlett, who opened Studio 417 in 2000. The shop – named after the co-owners’ youngest sons, Hudson and Hawkins – offers $20 cuts and a $40 cut and hot-towel shave, as well as waxing, chair-side nail grooming and shoe shines. It carries American-made products such as Baldwin-K.C. hats, Randolph sunglasses and Imperial pomades and aftershaves. Catlett said the badger hair shaving brushes that retail between $60 and $140 are handmade by Springfield-based 1906 LLC. Forrester worked in his family’s Forrester Tech home theater and technology systems firm until January, when he bought into the barbershop as a 40 percent owner. He completed barber training at the Academy of Hair Design and a course at Vidal Sassoon in Los Angeles. Catlett owns the building. The partners plan to open a second salon and barbershop by November at south-side development Farmers Park. Hours: 9 a.m.–7 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m.–5 p.m. Saturday. Phone: (417) 831-2888. Web: HudsonHawkBarbers.com

Polsinelli PC
After a series of mergers in recent years, Kansas City-based law firm Polsinelli Shughart PC changed its name April 22 to Polsinelli PC. The firm’s Springfield office, 901 St. Louis St., Ste. 1200, is among its operations in 16 cities nationwide. Polsinelli PC has added more than 150 attorneys in the last four years, largely through a 2009 merger with K.C. firm Shughart Thomson & Kilroy. Led by managing partner Thomas O’Neal, 11 attorneys work in the Hammons Tower office, practicing corporate, financial services and real estate law. Polsinelli spokeswoman Heather McMichael said the Springfield office added corporate law last year with the hiring of Dwayne Fulk.
