Fetch Pet Supplies & Gifts
Jennifer Silverberg opened Fetch Pet Supplies & Gifts on Nov. 2 at 1332 E. Republic Road, Ste. A. Along with specializing in high-quality and healthy products for dogs and cats, Silverberg said Fetch is differentiating itself in the market by delivering food purchases greater than $35 to homes within 5 miles of the store. She said the service makes Fetch competitive with online retailers, a growing segment in pet products. Fetch sells dog beds, apparel, decorative baked treats, collars with sports logos and artistic designs, and it has a self-service dog wash. Silverberg, who previously worked as a sales representative for beverage distributor Glazers and in marketing for Reyco Granning, said popular items are the Acana, Victor and Orijen lines of pet food and the “Puppies Wine and I’m Fine” T-shirts for pet owners. She self-financed the $20,000 startup and signed a three-year lease for the store.

Missouri Job Center
The Missouri Job Center added an office Nov. 21 on the first floor of the CoxHealth North Medical Tower, 1433 N. Robberson Ave. With its main center on East Sunshine Street, the north-side satellite office is a product of the Community Listen meetings held in May 2015. Director Mary Ann Rojas said the participants found transportation issues were barriers for job seekers. “While the mobile job center bus helps us reach folks, we really felt we needed a permanent location in north Springfield,” she said. “This partnership with CoxHealth was vital.” Targeting unemployed and displaced workers, Missouri Job Center services include career counseling, hiring fairs, resume assistance and employment workshops. It also conducts an annual workforce survey. The center signed a one-year lease for $2,000 a month with Cox for the 1,865-square-foot office. With six employees managed by Cynthia Collins, the center had served 150 people through Dec. 9, said spokeswoman Megan Short.

OakStar Bank
In its 113th year, Bank of Urbana changed its flag to OakStar Bank on Sept. 30, signaling the closure of an acquisition by the much younger Springfield bank. The buyout was the first by OakStar, which grew by $180 million in assets, 48 employees and four branches, according to company officials. OakStar now has $620 million in assets, 150 associates, six branches, a mortgage office in Kansas City and a loan production office in Florida. Bank of Urbana former President Bill Vaughn, a fourth-generation owner of the bank approaching retirement age, said he sought out a buyer because no immediate or extended family members were interested in taking over. Vaughn is staying on in an advisory director role through the transition. Technical and system changes are underway and expected to be completed by April, officials said.
