European Cafe
Ukrainian sisters Khrystyna Savva and Uliana Komodi opened European Cafe on Jan. 13 at 207 Park Central East off the public square downtown. The cafe, co-owned by Komodi’s husband, Joe, specializes in pastries and serves Lavazza Italian coffee, Savva said. Komodi got her start as a baker by making a cake for a family member’s birthday and soon began receiving orders from family and friends for all occasions. At European Cafe, she bakes from scratch daily and offers catering. The 1,200-square-foot space, leased from Allen Casey and formerly occupied by Gelato Mio, also can hold business meetings by appointment. With funding through a downtown development loan by the city of Springfield, the family invested $45,000 in the startup. Hours: 7:30 a.m.–9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 7:30 a.m.–11 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m.–11 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m.–9 p.m. Sunday. Phone: (417) 315-9664. Web: 417EuropeanCafe.com
