Open for Business: Boutique Unity LLC

Boutique Unity LLC
With the idea of “catering to women of all shapes and sizes,” Stacy Deters opened Boutique Unity LLC on Nov. 15 at 1312 E. Republic Road. While some of the products at the women’s clothing shop are handmade in Spain through the UNOde50 brand, Deters buys most of the clothes and accessories at markets all over the country; her next planned trip is to Las Vegas. Boutique Unity also carries Sanctuary, Bella Luxx and Astars. Prices range from $30 for rings, bracelets and earrings to $200 for dresses, jeans and shoes. Deters said she named the store Boutique Unity because she loves the idea of sisterhood: “We are stronger together,” she said. She signed a three-year lease for 1,300 square feet for undisclosed terms with John Haik. Deters recently hired a part-time employee to help out with marketing on Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat.

Piccolo
While piccolo means “small” in Italian, the Dec. 4 opening of an Italian cafe by that name has a couple of meanings to owner Steve D’Arpino. His parents own D’Arpino’s Italian Cafe in Springfield, so the younger D’Arpino sees Piccolo in the smaller-town Nixa as a spin-off to his parent’s work, including the family’s marinara recipe. Piccolo operates in 3,500 square feet at 107 W. Aldersgate Drive, Stes. 1-2. D’Arpino said Piccolo is in a three-year lease and startup costs were about $150,000. With 20 part-time employees, the cafe offers chicken parmesan, spicy Mary pasta and Balboa meatballs, as well as a full bar. Lunches run $8-$9 and dinner pasta dishes are priced $11-$13, with steak and seafood plates up to $24.

Studio Bar and Ultra Lounge LLC
Studio Bar and Ultra Lounge LLC opened Dec. 30 downtown at 300 Park Central East, following in the steps of Parlor 88 and Fedora Social House. The latest full-service bar is co-owned by Craig Clark and Darin Gloe. Clark previously owned and operated Blue Bull Bar & Grill in the Holland Building on the square, and Gloe is a music producer who performs as DJ CEO and on Power 96.5. “The name just seemed to fit,” Clark said of the $75,000 new venture, coming on line two months after Blue Bull closed. “It’s basically who we are as individuals.” The business partners lease 4,200 square feet for undisclosed terms from 28 Properties LLC.
