A-1 Guarantee Roofing Inc.
In its 25th year in business, founders
Brian and
Sally Garber moved A-1 Guarantee Roofing Inc. on Jan. 6 to 13 acres at 5398 W. Chestnut Expressway, just west of Interstate 44. Sally Garber said the primarily residential roofing repair company now with 25 employees outgrew its 2956 W. Chestnut Expressway building, which is for sale. The Garbers bought the land and 5,400 square feet of office and warehouse space for $575,000, financed by Great Southern Bank, she said. It’s the company’s third move. “It’s a way to celebrate the year,” Garber said, noting they plan to build another warehouse. She said crews mostly work with CertainTeed shingles and, on the high end, metal roofing and DaVinci synthetic slate shingles are becoming popular.

The West Des Moines, Iowa-based fuel and convenience store chain opened its second Marketplace concept store in Republic on Dec. 30. Kum & Go LC built the 6,200-square-foot store at 638 U.S. Highway 60, and the company has a handful of others under construction in Springfield. In the market, Kum & Go officials have said they’re investing up to $30.5 million in the Marketplace store upgrades, through a combination of property acquisitions, demolitions and new construction, and often relocating previous stores. The new concept stores typically exceed $4 million in development costs, according to Springfield Business Journal reporting. Central to Kum & Go’s new design is an open food preparation area to serve the Go Fresh Market inside, with additional seating on a heated patio. Marketplace stores also offer free Wi-Fi and charging stations for customers, and they’re built with energy efficient and sustainable design practices.
