3 Corner Bar & Grille
Restaurateur Riad Matar made his return downtown May 30 with the opening of 3 Corner Bar & Grille at 400 South Ave. Matar operated Riad, a Mediterranean restaurant on Park Central Square, for six years until 2010 and ran a second site on the south side for five years until selling it in September. He spent a month in Dubai and Kuwait with his Syrian family following the death of his brother. “That completely changed where I’m going,” he said, noting he took a loss on the sale to the operators of Taj Mahal Indian restaurant. At the 2,400-square-foot 3 Corner space at South Avenue and Walnut Street, formerly South & Walnut Bar & Grill, Matar employs 14 and has seating for 94. He said the menu emphasizes hamburgers and hot dogs, though a quarter of his signature Mediterranean dishes are available. Matar signed a five-year lease, with another five-year option, for $3,000 per month with landlord Walnut & South LLC. Hours: 11 a.m.–9 p.m. Monday through Wednesday and 11–1:30 a.m. Thursday through Saturday. Phone: (417) 720-1018.
