Ozark Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Andrea Sitzes received the 2017 Bob Ady Scholarship from the Mid-America Economic Development Council for thriving under continually changing economic conditions. The scholarship allows her to attend the 2017 Competitiveness Conference & Site Selector Forum in December in Chicago.

The Missouri chamber gave Rep. Elijah Haahr, R-Springfield, the 2017 Spirit of Enterprise Award. The honor recognizes legislators with a central role in passing pro-business legislation and advocating for business growth in the Missouri General Assembly.

The Missouri Chamber of Commerce and Industry named GigSalad one of the fastest growing companies in the state. The online event and entertainment booking agency is among seven companies receiving a Fast Track Award at the Missouri Business Awards in November.

Education
The Southwest Missouri Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America honored Evangel University junior Mallory Johnson with the Dr. Joe McAdoo Memorial Scholarship for the 2017-18 academic year. The $1,500 scholarship also allows recipients to attend the society’s meetings and professional development seminar for free.

Drury University appointed three new members to its alumni council: Patti Callaway, Ron Carrier and Janell Manley. Callaway, an accountant, completed her bachelor’s degree with the school’s College of Continuing Professional Studies in 2009. Carrier, associate circuit judge for Greene County, is a 1986 political science graduate. Manley earned degrees in business administration and economics in 1975 and a master’s in 1978.

Ozarks Technical Community College’s Department of Communications and Marketing won six Medallion Awards at the National Council for Marketing and Public Relations regional conference in Davenport, Iowa. An admissions guide and a TV commercial titled, “You have a dream, we have a plan,” won Gold Medallion Awards. OTC’s 2016 Annual Report, its website homepage and a gingerbread Christmas card won Silver Medallion Awards. Its electronic employee newsletter won a Bronze Medallion.

Health Care
College of the Ozarks senior nursing major Hailey Alexander completed an externship at the Mayo Clinic campus in Rochester, Minnesota. Learning through direct patient care, she worked in the Medical Cardiology Progressive Unit with observation days in the emergency room, Neurosurgery Intensive Care Unit and cardiac surgery.

Marketing
Chris Lambert
joined ADsmith Marketing and Advertising as a market specialist. He previously served as an account executive at KY3 and KSPR, working directly with ADsmith to help with television marketing campaigns.

Media
The Missouri Press Association selected Jacob Brower, publisher of the Monett Times and Cassville Democrat, as the National Newspaper Association state chairman. In electing the MPA’s 2018 officers and directors, The Daily Events Publisher Jeff Schrag will remain on the board as immediate past president through 2018. He is succeeded by The Joplin Globe Editor Carol Stark.

Municipal
Mayor Ken McClure appointed Pamela Hernandez and Heather Hardinger to the Mayor’s Commission on Human Rights and Community Relations, Camille Johnson to the city’s Public Housing Authority and Len Eagleburger to the Springfield Traffic Advisory Board. Springfield City Council approved each of the appointments.

Springfield Fire Chief David Pennington appointed two assistant fire chiefs: Olan Morelan and Bryan Newberry. The Fire Department also promoted Battalion Chief Kevin Trogdon to lead the prevention division and Capts. Eric Latimer and Heith Aldridge to battalion chiefs.
