Kyle Hesemann was appointed to tax director of the southern Missouri practice for BKD LLP. Hesemann provides tax planning, consulting and preparation services for individuals, corporations, S corporations, partnerships and limited liability corporations.

Cathy Gutridge and Kari Wooderson joined KPM CPAs PC as staff accountants. Gutridge earned a bachelor’s in accounting and a master’s in accountancy from Missouri State University. Wooderson is a 2012 accounting graduate from Southwest Baptist University.

Banking
Farmers State Bank in Bolivar appointed James Hacker to its board of directors. Hacker, a lifelong Bolivar resident and graduate of Southwest Baptist University, has been a cattleman for 30 years and is a field representative for Joplin Stockyards.

CU Community Credit Union was chosen as a winner in the 2012 American Web Design Awards competition by Graphic Design USA for the redesign of MyCUCommunity.com. The site was chosen from among more than 1,000 applications nationwide and was featured in the May issue of GDUSA magazine and online.

Brooke Bigham, a portfolio management associate and financial planning specialist with Morgan Stanley Smith Barney’s wealth management office, earned the firm’s Portfolio Management Associate designation. She has worked with The Layman Group at Morgan Stanley Smith Barney since 2003.

Education
Matt Morris joined MSU as vice president for administrative and information services. He has served as interim vice president since February and has worked for the university for more than 13 years. Morris earned a bachelor’s of business administration from Pittsburg State University and an MBA from MSU.

Springfield Public Schools teacher Jonna Choat joined teachers from around the world in the Honeywell Educators @ Space Academy. Choat accumulated 45 hours of professional development at the space camp and participated in an educator curriculum focused on space science and exploration.

SBU’s College of Education and Social Sciences received accreditation for a doctoral program that prepares leaders and administrators for service in school administration and nonprofit or church affiliated organizations.

Government
Jeffrey Schmitt, a shareholder at public accounting firm Tucker and Co. PC, was appointed to the city of Springfield’s Industrial Development Authority, which develops commercial, industrial, agricultural and manufacturing facilities, and issues project revenue bonds.

Secretary of State Robin Carnahan awarded a $47,803 Digital Imaging Grant to the Springfield-Greene County Library District. The grant will be used to identify and prioritize collections pertaining to Missouri’s World War I history.

Health Care
Integrity Hospice and Palliative Care received approval from the Community Health Accreditation Program for full hospice accreditation.

Mercy Hospital Springfield was recognized by the Joint Commission in conjunction with American Heart Association/American Stroke Association with advanced certification for primary stroke centers. Certification signifies an organization’s dedication to fostering better outcomes for patients.

Mercy appointed five health care professionals. Dr. Kyle John is medical director for children’s services at Mercy Clinic Springfield. David Globig is vice president of Mercy Orthopedic Hospital Springfield. Clinical psychologist Gahan Fallone joined Mercy Clinic Behavioral Health-Lark and serves on the Springfield Mayor’s Commission for Children. Dr. Bill Bayazed joined Mercy Headache Management as a medical director. Eric Fuhr accepted the position of vice president of operations and surgical specialties.

Mari Hayes, a psychologist with Mercy Clinic Behavioral Health-Lark, completed a four-year specialized training in psychoanalysis from the Greater Kansas City Psychoanalytic Institute.

Mercy Dr. Shachar Tauber received the American Academy of Ophthalmology’s Achievement Award, and Dr. Frank Newman received board certification in oral and maxillofacial surgery.

Dr. Konstantinos Marmagkiolis joined Citizens Memorial Healthcare as a board-certified cardiologist for CMH Heart Institute Clinic. Marmagkiolis, a graduate of Aristotelian University of Thessaloniki in Greece, completed an internal medicine residency at Western Reserve Care System/Forum Health in Youngstown, Ohio.

Law
Paul Breshears and Jennifer Cole joined Douglas, Haun and Heidemann PC. Breshears, who received a juris doctor from University of Missouri-Columbia, focuses on commercial law and tax issues with estate and gift planning.

Cole, who earned a juris doctor from University of Arkansas-Fayetteville, practices family law.

Nonprofit
Empire Bank mortgage loan officer Sharon Koechner joined the board of directors of Big Brothers Big Sister of the Ozarks. She also serves on the nonprofit’s Program and Personnel Committee and the Taste of the Ozarks Committee.

Retail
Steve Johnson of Plato’s Closet received a Sales Excellence Award at the company’s annual conference held in St. Pete Beach, Fla.

Sports
The Springfield Sports Commission named Sheila Fish its assistant director. Fish, who has worked for nonprofits Harmony House, Dickerson Park Zoo and The Discovery Center, earned a bachelor’s in public relations from MSU and a master’s in communication from Drury.

Technology
Brewer Science President Terry Brewer was appointed to the SEMI North American Advisory Board. The appointment recognizes Brewer’s work to help create the anti-reflective coating marketplace and the company’s work to design and manufacture specialty chemicals and equipment that impact the design of certain electronics.[[In-content Ad]]
