BKD LLP Chief Operations Officer Eric Hansen was honored as a Distinguished Eagle Scout for commitment to community improvement and career achievement. He was nominated by the Ozark Trails Council and confirmed by the National Eagle Scout Association.

BKD added Dan Prater as a senior managing consultant. He previously was the founding director of the Center for Nonprofit Leadership at Drury University and has 20 years of experience in nonprofit research, education and consulting.

Education
Benny Fong
, an assistant professor of graduate education and statistics at Southwest Baptist University, presented at the International Christian Educator Conference in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. He presented findings from his workshop, “Factors Influencing Retention of Gen Y and Non-Gen Y Teachers Working at International Schools in Asia.”

Government
Gov. Mike Parson appointed Scott Fitzpatrick as state treasurer, succeeding Eric Schmitt, who was named attorney general. Fitzpatrick, who founded Shell Knob boat dock manufacturer MariCorps US LLC, has represented Barry County and portions of Stone and Lawrence counties in the Missouri House of Representatives.

Health Care
Ozarks Neurological Foundation Inc.
donated $25,000 to the CoxHealth Foundation to benefit the CoxHealth ALS Clinic. The funds were raised at the ONF Golf Tournament at Highland Springs Country Club.

Nonprofit
The Darr Family Foundation handed out over $155,464 to nonprofits during its fall 2018 grant cycle. Among the recipients were Boys & Girls Club of the Ozarks, Care to Learn, Children’s Smile Center CSC, Community Partnership of the Ozarks, Council of Churches of the Ozarks, Discovery Center, Drew Lewis Foundation, Good Dads, Lafayette House, Missouri State University Foundation, Newborns in Need, Ozarks Area Community Action Corp., Ozarks Food Harvest, Pregnancy Care Center and the Vision Rehabilitation Center of the Ozarks.

Ozarks Literacy Council named Amy Jardell as executive director. She oversees fundraising and community relations, as well as office, financial and grant management. She previously worked in development for The Child Advocacy Center.

Community Foundation of the Ozarks Inc. awarded $60,000 in diversity and inclusion grants to Drury University and Grupo Latinoamericano, Foster Adopt Connect Inc. and Fresh Start Furnishings, Friends of the Timmons Temple, Springfield-Greene County Park Board, Springfield NAACP, The Glo Center, Promo, Springfield Black Tie and Commercial Street Community Improvement District, Missouri State University and Facing Racism Institute, and MSU and the Springfield-Greene County African-American Heritage Trail. Those entities grouped together are collaborative efforts, with the first listed as the lead entity.

Catholic Charities of Southern Missouri Inc. named John Farmer da la Torre director of communications and marketing, Riley Daniels as senior director of social enterprise and Heather Cribbs as office manager and executive assistant. Farmer da la Torre is a former photojournalist, financial marketing executive at AIG in New York City and Latin America, and financial adviser at UBS Wealth Management in Los Angeles. Daniels has 20 years of experience in retail, including stints at Bass Pro Shops and Home Depot. Cribbs has worked in finance and customer service management, and she earned a Juris Doctor from Concord Law School at Purdue University Global.
