The Missouri State University Board of Governors voted Friday to award a multimillion-dollar residence hall renovation project to Springfield-based DeWitt & Associates Inc.

DeWitt & Associates submitted the lowest bid of $8.8 million to renovate Woods House, 1115 E. Bear Blvd., this summer. The project has a total budget of $11.1 million, according to the board’s Feb. 23 agenda. MSU President Clif Smart this morning confirmed the winning bid.

Through the project, DeWitt & Associates will replace the 10-story building’s piping and fan coil units in its HVAC systems and construct an electrical room additional. The work includes updated outlets, light fixtures, ceilings, windows and flooring finishes in student rooms, according to the agenda. MSU project manager Rob Viau said the work follows separate abatement and demolition on the residence hall’s vacant ninth floor that removed asbestos.

The work is scheduled for completion by the fall semester.

DeWitt & Associates won the contract over competitors Bales Construction Co Inc., which submitted an $9 million bid, and Timberlake Construction Co. Inc., which sought to renovate the residence hall to the tune of $9.8 million.

Another MSU project by DeWitt & Associates is the $33.8 million renovation and expansion of Glass Hall.
