MetroPCS signage goes up downtown

Posted online
Workers this morning installed MetroPCS signage at a downtown property that for decades housed a jewelry store.

Kyle Cristoffer, the owner of the 108 Park Central Square building, said Seattle-based MetroPCS dealer Spiked Holdings LLC signed a lease for undisclosed terms for roughly 3,000 square feet of first-floor and basement space. MetroPCS is a prepaid wireless phone service brand owned by T-Mobile US Inc. (Nasdaq: TMUS).

Spiked Holdings officials could not be reached for comment by deadline. The company operates four other MetroPCS stores in Springfield, according to its website.

Cristoffer said the Park Central Square space remodeled by Insight Design Architects LLC should be ready for MetroPCS’ opening by mid-January. The second and third floors are being remodeled for Cristoffer and his wife’s loft. He expects the residential project to be finished this spring.

Cristoffer bought the former Marilyn's Fine Jewelry building after the 40-year-old business closed in April.

He had been seeking a restaurant tenant, but switched gears after being approached by representatives of Spiked Holdings.

“When they came along with everything they had to offer, we just thought it would be the most convenient, easiest thing to to do,” Cristoffer said. “We looked at the current restaurant situation downtown and thought a nice longer term lease with a good retailer down there would probably be nice.”
