Mercy: No patients harmed by pharmacy tech indicted for theft

Mercy Springfield Communities officials say there was “no evidence any patients were harmed” by the actions of a former pharmacy technician who this week was indicted for theft.

That’s according to a statement provided by Mercy spokeswoman Sonya Kullmann, who said the health system’s internal investigation first discovered alleged misconduct by former employee Marc Musil.

Musil, 36, of Springfield, was indicted July 10 on two counts of tampering with a consumer product. The indictment was returned by a federal grand jury in Springfield, according to a news release from the office of Timothy Garrison, U.S. attorney for the Western District of Missouri.

Musil is accused of allegedly stealing fentanyl and morphine from Mercy Hospital Springfield’s pharmacy and replacing the drugs with saline solution. The alleged activity is said to have occurred in July 2017.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Patrick Carney, and it was investigated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s Office of Criminal Investigations, according to the release.
