Managing the Merger: Bass Pro has no current plans to close stores after Cabela’s purchase

Posted online

Following Bass Pro Shops’ Sept. 25 purchase of Cabela’s Inc., both retailers posted identical pages on their websites explaining any changes customers might experience. Here are some highlights:

Name change
The names of the stores are not directly mentioned, but the statement said, “We will continue celebrating and promoting both the Bass Pro Shops and Cabela’s brands.”

Gift cards
Customers can exchange Bass Pro Shops gift cards for Cabela’s gift cards – and vice versa.

Cabela’s purchases can be returned at Bass Pro Shops – and vice versa.

Bass Pro Shops and Cabela’s will continue honoring lifetime guarantees and any other warranties on products.

Product selection
Brand selection decisions are still being made. Bass Pro Shops and Cabela’s have proprietary brands and will continue in some form.

There are no immediate plans to combine the sites.

There are no plans to stop mailing catalogs.

Credit cards
At this time, both the Cabela’s Club Visa and the Bass Pro Shops Outdoor Rewards Mastercard will continue to provide the same benefits as in the past.

Promotions offered by the two brands will remain separate.
