Kushner used private email to conduct White House business

Posted online

Politico reports Jared Kushner set up a private email server during the transition in December and has used it to discuss White House matters.

Kushner, President Donald Trump's son-in-law and senior adviser at the White House, used the private email account to talk with senior White House officials, outside advisers and others about media coverage, event planning and other subjects.

“Mr. Kushner uses his White House email address to conduct White House business,” Abbe Lowell, a lawyer for Kushner, said in a statement Sunday. “Fewer than 100 emails from January through August were either sent to or returned by Mr. Kushner to colleagues in the White House from his personal email account. These usually forwarded news articles or political commentary and most often occurred when someone initiated the exchange by sending an email to his personal rather than his White House address.”

During the election campaign, Trump often cited Democratic rival Hillary Clinton for using a personal email account to handle government business when she was secretary of state.
