The Springfield Public Schools Board of Education voted unanimously to grant Superintendent John Jungmann a fifth contract extension.
With the Jan. 22 vote, Jungmann’s contract has been extended through the 2021-22 academic year, according to a news release issued this morning by the district.
"As the board reviewed the goals and expectations set for Dr. Jungmann, we noted significant progress in key areas,” board President Jill Patterson said in the release. “We are pleased with his leadership and service, and we look forward to continuing our work together in the best interests of our students and staff.”
The board did not vote to change Jungmann’s contract terms and benefits. His base salary for the 2018-19 academic year is $265,110. The contract stipulates Jungmann may receive cost-of-living and step increases timed with teacher salary schedules.
The board cited Jungmann’s forward-thinking vision, leadership of early childhood expansion efforts, collaboration with other school districts, increased community communications and the effective management of surplus property, among other achievements, according to the release.
“Achieving progress on behalf of Springfield Public Schools requires a team effort, and we have an exceptional team,” Jungmann said in the release.
Jungmann, the board and the district in April will seek voter approval for a $168 million bond issuance to fund facility improvements at nearly 40 schools.
