Participation and Mentorship

Women’s Council of Realtors has been essential in helping me grow as a leader. Their mission statement is “we are a network of successful Realtors, advancing women as professionals and leaders in business, the industry and the committees we serve.” I strive to be an example of that statement.

My participation includes the following positions: 2012-2013 Local Chapter President, 2016 Missouri State President, nomination for 2019 Regional Vice President. As a member of this organization I have had the benefit of many mentor’s guidance. The one closest to my heart is Swanie Marsh.

Through the years of participation and mentorship, I’ve learned that part of a leader’s job is to help everyone find that thing at which they excel and then help them grow that ability. Give people the chance to fail but be close to help them with their struggles. It’s important to allow those that follow you to have their own successes.

One of the most important lessons I’ve learned is found in Proverbs 15:31, “If you listen to constructive criticism, you will be at home among the wise.” I use this to correct and better myself in life and in business. For instance, I once took a personality assessment and it stated that I was “status quo”. I strive to prove that assessment wrong because as a leader it’s important to learn how to embrace change.
