Edinburgh, Indiana-based Central Marketing Transport LLC is scheduled to cut the ribbon tomorrow on its new Strafford hub.
The trucking company that specializes in refrigerated transportation invested $1 million building the new center at 9602 E. State Highway 00, replacing the company’s existing operation in the city. CMT owner and President Alan Wilkerson said the ribbon-cutting tomorrow will ceremonially mark the opening of the center that finalized in March. Its former facility was leased.
“We wanted to get in, get things flowing, operations set up, before we pulled the trigger on the open house,” Wilkerson said, noting the ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for noon.
Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce Business Assistance Coordinator Danny Perches said the 20,000-square-foot hub had been under construction since November 2015.
CMT’s new center supports a fleet of 115 trucks and 170 trailers, as well as its current Strafford workforce of 120 employees, including drivers, said Randy Anderson, who helps lead CMT operations in Strafford. Perches said the company plans to make additional hires. Wilkerson confirmed the hiring plans, but wasn’t sure how many new employees the company would bring on board.
For the new build project, Perches said CMT received a 50 percent tax abatement on improvements to real property for 10 years through the Strafford enhanced enterprise zone.
Wilkerson said the Strafford hub is the Indiana company’s only facility outside of Indiana.
“This area has a great tradition of trucking, of transportation,” Anderson added.
