Horrmann Meat Co. LLC tomorrow plans to shutter one of its two Springfield stores.
Horrmann Meat co-owner Seth Hoerman said the company was unable to cover overhead at the 3,300-square-foot space at 3250 E. Battlefield Road, Ste. 8, in Fox Grape Plaza. The company’s smaller shop at 1537 W. Battlefield Road, near Hy-Vee and King Cash Saver, and the family business’ Fair Grove processing plant will remain open, Hoerman said. The second store opened in 2016.
“Although we’ve grown, we just haven’t been able to grow into the size of the store,” he said of the Fox Grape Plaza location, which is double the size of its other Springfield store. “We’re having to refortify at our West Battlefield store and looking at making some changes to accommodate the overall growth we’ve had in Springfield.”
For customers who became accustomed to the East Battlefield store, Hoerman said Horrmann Meat is launching online ordering, shipping and delivery.
“We realize there’s a lot of people on this side of town. This location has been convenient for them,” he said.
Declining to disclose revenues, Hoerman said “our market presence has definitely grown in Springfield” since the East Battlefield store opened more than two years ago.
At the East Battlefield store, Hoerman said its four employees were offered other jobs with Horrmann Meat at its other Springfield location and Fair Grove plant. He said some stayed on board, while others parted ways.
The company announced the closure yesterday on Facebook.
