Halloween spending expected to reach second-highest level

The National Retail Federation's annual survey by Prosper Insights & Analytics predicts Halloween spending will reach its second-highest level to date.

Total spending on goods such as candy, costumes and decorations is expected to reach $9 billion. That's short only of the $9.1 billion record set last year.

“The economy is good and consumer confidence is high, so families are ready to spend on Halloween this year,” NRF President and CEO Matthew Shay said in a statement. “Retailers are stocking up to supply children, pets and adults with their favorite decorations, candy and costumes for the season.”
