Posted online

Habitat for Humanity of Springfield is running a fundraising campaign to cover $15,000 worth of tools and building supplies stolen from the nonprofit last month.

On the organization’s website, “The Grinch Who Stole our Tools” campaign had raised $846 as of 10:45 a.m., with 56 days to go. The nonprofit also is accepting tool donations.

On Nov. 24, Habitat for Humanity’s 1997 Chevy Silverado, an attached trailer and tools and supplies were stolen from the organization’s ReStore at 2410 S. Scenic Ave. The Greene County Sheriff’s Department and Springfield Police Department found the truck and trailer, but the tools and supplies were unable to be recovered, according to a news release.

“Without tools, we can’t build and repair homes for residents of Woodland Heights,” said Larry Peterson, executive director of Habitat for Humanity of Springfield, in the release. “We have to put current projects on hold and we can’t start critical repairs until we can replace our stolen equipment.”
