Google Plus announcement sparks German privacy probe

Alphabet Inc.’s Google is now facing a German privacy probe after announcing it would shut down Google Plus.

The company recently revealed it would close Google Plus for consumers after it discovered a bug could have allowed apps to view the data of as many as 500,000 users.

Johannes Caspar, data protection commissioner in Hamburg, Germany, said his agency is investigating the matter and why the glitch wasn't disclosed when discovered in March.
