Project description: The new Kum & Go Marketplace fuel station and convenience store on South National is going up on the site of a former store. Barry Green, district supervisor for the Des Moines, Iowa-based chain, said the company is replacing its aging buildings and stores with limited square footage. “The new Marketplace store design introduced in early 2016 will offer eight gas dispensers and a broad selection of fresh food products, including made-to-order pizzas and sandwiches,” Green said. Of Kum & Go’s 430 stores in 11 states, 45 are in operation in the Springfield area, said spokeswoman Kristie Bell. “Between building new stores and rebuilding older stores, Kum & Go has invested about $40 million in the area in the past five years,” she said, noting additional investment is expected. Bell said four stores currently are under construction in the area – including two more in Springfield and two in Ozark.
